Devotion's by Deborah

Happy New Year, everyone! Devotion 1-1-24 John 6:66 NKJV - From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more." Jesus, Son of God, Son of Man, routinely made statements that the disciples of His time found difficult. John 6 is full of them. Jesus said, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He (God the Father) has sent."(verse 29) Jesus had just said, in verse 27, that God had set His seal, His approval, on Him. Then Jesus said, in verse 35, "I am the bread of life..." Jesus said the one who believed in Him would have eternal life. In verse 51, He said, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven." In this He compares Himself to the manna the Israelites received from God in the wilderness. Then Jesus said those who believe must eat and drink Him! "For My flesh is true food and My blood is true drink."(Verse 55) We must believe Jesus is who He says He is. That is the stumbling block over which the disciples tripped. Jesus knew their hearts, just as He knows our hearts. Jesus knew who would hear and believe and who would go back and never walk with Him again. It was their free choice; but Jesus knew. Peter testified in verse 68-69, "Lord to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that you are the holy One of God." When the difficulties come, which they will, what will you do? Will you turn away accusing God of deception? Or, will you honor God in the midst of it all? Each moment is a choice. Many chose to walk away. A few chose to stay. Which are you? Joshua 24:15- "...But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
