Devotion's by Deborah

Devotion 1-23-24, Psalm 40:8 - "I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.” We may obey someone for various reasons. - necessity, advantage, compulsion, or because of deep love and admiration. When the psalmist says he "delights" to do God's will, it is for the last reason. Also, we get another clue -God's "law is within my heart." Psalm 37:31 says, "The law of his God is in his heart…" God says in Jeremiah 31:33b- "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it…" 2 Corinthians 3:3 goes on to say, "You are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts." Here is the progression -we are convinced of our sin, we confess to God, we seek forgiveness and accept God's gift of salvation; we then call on God to, not only forgive, but take over, to be Lord of us. In the process, the Holy Spirit of God takes up residence in us, and we begin to hunger for God's word, His law. We want to obey, we want to "delight" to obey. The key is feeding our hearts with God's word and God's fellowship. The key is to be pliable in God's hands, willing to take correction and willing to adjust as we receive new revelation and understanding. It is a never-ending process. God writes on our hearts, we acknowledge and obey. Take note where you slip at times. Ask God to instill more of His law of love. Ask Him to remove and replace what does not honor Him. Delight to do God's will!
