Devotion 2-13-24, John 1:12- "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name." How do you receive Christ? Part of the answer is in the verse- "to those who believe in His name." But then, how do we come to believe in His name? Is this something we do on our own, or do we receive help? We have God's help in all the processes. God opens our eyes to see that He even exists. God actively seeks us. He actively, persistently, knocks on our hearts. God is the active agent in our desire to join Him in a relationship. "For God so loved..." This is the foundational truth of our lives as children of God. God loved. God sought. God knocked. Then I received and believed or perhaps the two are so intertwined that it is impossible to say which came first. I was given the "right" to become a child of God. Watch this! It was not something I worked for; it was not something I paid for. The "right" was given, by God, to me, because of His massive overflowing, love! Becoming a child of God means I then proceeded to learn what children of God do. Children of God emulate, copy, their family. They love. They do not criticize, they love. They learn; it is a process that has a distinct, point in time, a beginning. I became a child of God and I continue to grow and learn. Have you become a child of God? The encouragement is that what God did for you, He will do for others! Pray for other's hearts to be receptive to God as well. 1 Timothy 2:3-6- "This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time."
